Back here in UK, and 'back in the day' when our beloved 'World of Sport' wrestling was on tv every week, this is how they introduced the rules, every bout.
A 'knockout' would actually invariably be just the man unable to beat a 10 count. A splash from a 300+lb guy would often be the reason, or a silly 'thrown out of the ring and didn't get in fast enough' thing.
In my RL wrestling adventures, KO's are seldom used, unless agreed beforehand. But if already on the wrong end of the bout they can be super hot. Personally don't like 'real' chokes (throat hurts for days - not fun), but have been sleepered out in arms and leg scissors. Surpirsingly good fun if you trust your opponent - and most on here, despite concerns, are good fellows with the same wish for fun as you.

I'd love to be in a bout with someone like https://www.meetfighters.com/users/Mike721 or similar. A hot young stud who likes to put you out, but sane with it.
Best and safest though to do those fake KO's. Pick his limp arm up 3 times to know 'he's out'. Hot fun!
