I am over 50 years old and I took part in the 10th GayGames in Paris this month. And I won a silver-medal in my first ever international competition.
What do I want to communicate?
I want to encourage you all, to attend in the next GayGames as well, to enjoy the multiple experiences this global event has to offer, even if you are 50+ years old.
You don't need to qualify to attend. You don't need to be a professional or so. You can be at least an absolute beginner and you are able to start, like a member of my club did and did very good.
Just to mention it:
This event has three age-groups with their own weight-classes. So you won't compete with a participant of 25 years or so.
The next GayGames will be held in Hong Kong in November 2022.
This is - on my point of view - a sufficent time of a little more than four years to get fit (if needed) and to get knowledge of olympic wrestling (freestyle) in means of techniques, rules and so on.
There is no club in your region?
Maybe there is a club in your country with the ability to support you to set up a club. Friends of mine did it like this in Australia.

How about to start such a club together with your friends. A friend of mine did this with some friends in Australia approx. three years before. Some of the members attended in Paris with success.
You need support?
Get in touch with me, please. I am a member of the board of a amateur wrestling club and there are several ways to help you to get things done step by step.
Rene thank you for your post. It’s so reassuring to hear that there are three age groups represented - at 60+ now I’d only want to compete against someone relatively the same age and hopefully skill level.
I have every intention of attending 2022 - and hope to meet you there!
