Looking for Choke Buds

The Art of the Choke: Building Bonds Through Trust, Skill, and Connection

Wrestling has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I was captivated by the intricate moves, the raw athleticism, and, oddly enough, the moments when a well-applied chokehold stole the show. There was something about it—a mix of fascination and, yes, a certain thrill that I couldn’t quite explain back then.

My first personal experience with a chokehold came when I was just a kid. My cousin, who was diving headfirst into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), asked if he could practice a rear-naked choke (RNC) on me. I agreed, curious and trusting. It was a surreal moment—the sensation of the hold, the control, and ultimately, the complete knockout. That moment stuck with me, and over time, I realized it wasn’t just about the technique; it was about the bond formed in those interactions.

Chokes Beyond the Ring: A Bond of Trust

As I’ve grown older, my appreciation for these moments has deepened. Trading chokes back and forth with a buddy doesn’t have to lead anywhere beyond what it is—a unique and deeply trusting interaction. There’s something undeniably powerful about the connection formed when two people share this kind of experience. It’s not just about the physicality; it’s about mutual respect, trust, and learning from one another.

Imagine you’re hanging out with a buddy, swapping stories about different holds and techniques. The conversation flows naturally; before you know it, you’re demonstrating a new variation or revisiting an old favorite. There’s no malice, no ego—just two people who genuinely enjoy the art of the choke, exploring its nuances together. It’s playful, it’s educational, and it’s incredibly bonding.

Why Skin-to-Skin Contact Matters

One of the most underrated aspects of these interactions is the skin-to-skin contact. It’s primal, grounding, and oddly comforting. This kind of physical interaction feels authentic and real in a world dominated by screens and superficial connections. It’s a reminder that human connection doesn’t always need words—sometimes, it’s about the unspoken understanding that comes with trust and shared experiences.

Building a friendship of Like-Minded Buddies

If this resonates with you, you’re not alone. I’m looking to connect with people who share this passion—people who love both giving and receiving chokes, who appreciate the artistry and the bond that comes with it. Whether you’re into BJJ, wrestling, or just curious about exploring this unique connection, there’s a place for you here.

I want to create a buddy system, a network of individuals who I can:

Trade choke techniques and variations.

Share stories, videos, and tips.

Connect over a shared appreciation for trust and skill.

Build genuine, lasting bonds through this mutual interest.

This isn’t about competition or ego. It’s about camaraderie, learning, and celebrating a shared passion in a safe and respectful way. Whether you’re a seasoned grappler or just starting, everyone is welcome.

drop a comment below! Share your favorite choke variation or a memorable story, or simply say hi.

There was a community formed on Yahoo groups some time ago, but it slowly died off.

My favourite, RNC/sleeperhold with hands trapped.

I think globally we are still a minority group into this. In Japan, it's more common though.

I'd love to join your group. I've always gone for the sleeper in guys I wrestled. The last guy I wrested was a budding bodybuilder. Some guys do their sleepers all at once. I like to be taken down step by step. His foot sleepers were especially effective, either his foot on my carotid or my windpipe. He finished me off with a hand gap over my mouth and nose, and a rnc. I'd like to hear about other guy's sleeper experiences.
